Ballet Night : Pointe, the power of dance to heal

Join us at the Alliance Française on Thursday 22 October for Ballet Night: Pointe, the power of dance to heal — a special screening of the award-winning documentary Pointe, Dancing on a Knife's Edge.

We will be delighted to welcome Dawn Jackson, the film's director, a Perth-based filmmaker and dancer whose journey through Indian Classical Dance and international choreography inspired her first feature documentary. Pointe tells the moving story of Australian dancer Floeur Alder, daughter of ballet luminaries Lucette Aldous AC and Alan Alder, who survives a brutal stabbing on the eve of her European dance career — and finds her way back through the healing power of creativity.

Joining her will be Claire Voss, a French-born dancer and choreographer with over 20 years of performing experience with Dortmund Ballet, Zurich Ballet, Finnish National Ballet and West Australian Ballet, including roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Sylph, Gamzatti, Myrtha and Olga. Claire now teaches pointe and repertoire at WAAPA.

Following the screening, take part in an engaging Q&A with Dawn and Claire, followed by a relaxed cocktail — a chance to reflect on the film, meet the guests, and connect with fellow attendees.
