Our monthly French Movie Night (with English subtitles) is back for the 2026 season, starting Monday 4 May from 6.30 PM.

This is the perfect opportunity to practice your listening skills while enjoying a film you've never seen before or one you have, but in French!

Film:
À l'abordage (All Hands on Deck in English) is a 2020 endearing French comedy, mostly shot in the gorgeous (northern) Drôme for the most part.

Synopsis:
On a hot summer night in Paris, Félix meets a young woman, Alma, and falls in love. The next morning, Alma hops on a train to join her family in southern France.
Félix, determined to follow his soulmate, embarks on a carpool ride with his best friend Chérif and their reluctant driver Edouard. When the car breaks down upon arrival, things turn sour: Alma doesn’t seem too pleased by this unexpected visit.

"The three main characters evolve, escaping their own caricatures and resisting our desire to confine them to types: a show‑off confident in his seductive power, an anxious young bourgeois eager to do the right thing, and a carefree young man with no ties. Even if their hitchhiking trip is cut short, their inner journeys continue, and the trio we see at the end is no longer the one we met at the beginning. Each of them experiences this journey separately, and the moments they share become a way to measure either the distance that still separates them or the distance they’ve made up that brings them closer – to each other and to themselves.
It’s a refreshing, tender, funny film, yet far from any vulgarity.
It’s a short film (1h35), like a little treat – light, but one that leaves a lovely aftertaste; or like a holiday that ended too soon but whose intensity stays with us for weeks afterward...
Guillaume Brac is more accustomed to making documentaries, which you can sense here: there is a hint of sptontaneity that is almost naturalistic. The film never feels overproduced, over designed, overthought.
