In 2026, we are introducing a refreshed and more flexible course offer designed to help you learn French more efficiently while maintaining the high teaching quality Alliance Française is known for.

Our adult General French courses now follow a clearer and more structured format based on the Mon Alter Ego method (Hachette FLE).

• Classes now run for 2.5 hours per session, allowing deeper practice and more meaningful progress.
• We are also introducing intensive 4-week formats with 2 x 3-hour classes per week.
• With this structure, students may progress up to 2.5 times faster and complete A1 in around 4 months instead of a year.

Yes. Our former Français Authentique courses are becoming the French Fluency Club.

• No textbook.
• Focus on conversation, current topics and real-life French.
• A dedicated calendar offering more flexibility, especially during winter.

French Focus Programs are short 4-week modules designed to work on specific skills or themes.

2026 will be a special year as Alliance Française de Perth celebrates its 115th anniversary, with new cultural events, workshops and community activities throughout the year.

You should enrol in any A1 Beginner 1 class.

Yes. We offer classes on Teams for different levels, including beginners, together with online learning support for writing and grammar practice outside the classroom.

No. We will provide the help you need and guide you through the process.

It depends on each learner. We recommend calling us on (08) 9386 7921 or taking our free online placement test before enrolling.

• Standard courses: Full-term or midterm courses covering general French from A1 to C1.
• Regular workshops: Term or midterm courses focused on specific areas such as speaking, pronunciation, grammar or DELF preparation.
• Holiday workshops: Short courses between terms exploring skills, themes and aspects of French culture.

We recommend aiming for a B1 Intermediate level. Reaching independent user level usually takes around 200 to 250 hours of tuition.

If you start from the beginning, it generally takes at least 400 hours of learning, although progress can be faster with prior knowledge or immersion.

Any class can help, but you may also want to explore our MidTerms or Holiday workshops that specifically focus on speaking and pronunciation.

All standard courses require a language set with a textbook and exercise book. When you purchase a course online, the textbook is automatically added to your cart and can be removed if you already have it.

Bring a pen, paper and a positive attitude. Some regular courses also require course materials purchased at enrolment.

Yes, certificates of level completion are available upon request.

For beginners, classes are usually chosen by age group:

• 18 months–3 years: Quokkas.
• 3–4 years: Swans.
• 5–7 years: Children 1.
• 8–10 years: Children 2.
• 11–15 years: Les Juniors.

The best option is to contact our Education Manager at pedago@afperth.com.au. Teens can also take the online placement test, and younger children can be assessed at the Alliance Française.

We offer FLAM classes for francophone and bilingual children from French-speaking or binational families. These classes are taught entirely in French.

• Les petites FLAMs: 4–6 years old.
• FLAM 1: 7–8 years old.
• FLAM 2: 9–12 years old.

On average, there are 6 children per class, which gives everyone the chance to participate and receive feedback.

Yes. Trial classes are possible if a place is available. The trial class must be paid for first, and the remaining balance is paid only if you decide to continue.

A language set is required for Children 1, 2, 3 and 4. It is automatically added to your cart and can be removed if you already have it.

No. Membership is not required to join a course, although it is helpful for partner discounts and additional member benefits.

Teachers use as much French as possible, while still using some English when needed to ensure children understand and feel confident.

Parents stay in Quokkas classes. For other classes, parents may stay briefly at the start, but are usually asked to leave after 15 minutes so children can settle independently.

Conversation and practical French are central, with content adapted by age and level.

• Quokkas and Swans: songs, stories, games, movement, craft and sensory learning.
• Children 1–4: structured progression using course books.
• FLAM: reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary development in French.
• Juniors and ATAR: school support, grammar, vocabulary and exam preparation.

Any class will help, and you can also look at holiday and regular workshops focused on speaking, pronunciation and grammar.

It generally takes at least 400 hours of learning to become an independent speaker, and progress can be accelerated through extra exposure to French outside class.

Our classes are both serious and enjoyable. Students benefit from small groups, qualified native-speaking teachers, and modern teaching methods including interactive whiteboards and iPads.

We offer term courses, holiday courses and special one-off workshops. Term courses usually run once a week over 10 weeks, while holiday courses generally take place daily during breaks between terms.

Most classes are held in Nedlands, with the main office, library and most adult classes at 75 Broadway. We also run teen courses in Bull Creek at All Saints' College.

Our general courses use textbooks available for sale at the Alliance, and students can also borrow learning tools from our library for free.
