Our next monthly French Movie Night (with English subtitles) will take place 1st of September, from 6.15 PM.

If you're learning French, this is the perfect opportunity to practice your listening skills while enjoying a film you've never seen before or one you have, but in French!

If you are already fluent (ou même natif francophone), this is just a nice opportunity to share a friendly evening!

Film:
Ni chaînes ni maîtres (No Chains No Masters in English) is a 2024 powerful French historical drama. Set on a sugar plantation on 18th-century Isle de France (present-day Mauritius), it follows an enslaved man and his daughter as she makes a desperate bid for freedom. This gripping first feature screened as part of the AF French Film Festival 2025.

Synopsis:
1759, Isle de France. When Mati escapes her plantation one night, a ruthless slave hunter is sent after her, forcing her father Massamba to flee into the highlands in pursuit of his daughter. Directed by Simon Moutaïrou in his debut feature, and starring Camille Cottin and Benoît Magimel, this is a rare and powerful story of resistance and courage, shedding light on marronnage , the history of escaped slaves who defied colonial rule.
