Delf-Dalf DIPLOMAS

The DELF  and the DALF are diplomas issued by the French Ministry of Education.

They are designed to assess the communicative skills of a candidate in a real situation, using authentic documents, and to evaluate know-how (writing a letter, asking for information, exchanging opinions) rather than the linguistic and formal grammatical knowledge.

They are divided into six independent diplomas corresponding to the six-level scale of the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2). This means that candidates can register for the examination of their choice, according to their level.

At each level, 4 skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
You can access sample papers here.

Each diploma is internationally recognised and valid for life. Note that holders of DELF B2 or DALF diplomas are exempt from language entrance examination in French universities.

There are also special versions of DELF diplomas for adolescents and children. These are structured in the same way as the adult versions, but the theme used is chosen to suit children and adolescent candidates.
